I make no bones about it. Mick Ronson was/is the most important guitar player of my lifetime. It's a bold statement - but when you first encounter "Moonage Daydream" as a bare-arsed 12 year old, it counts for everything.
This record, along with their earlier "Very 'Eavy Very 'Umble", Tull's "Aqualung" and the incomparable and never bettered, The Who's "Live At Leeds" were HUGE for me as a shy, day dreaming, on-another-planet 12 year old.
How the shitting hell did I miss this one?? I've been a devoted (pardon the pun) Depeche Mode fan since 1997's "Violator" and have worked backwards as well as including all subsequent releases to ensure I get my full fix.
I actually bought this record on the strength of the worlds greatest biologist and non-theist mischief-maker being mentioned on the album cover. (A really good review in the music press also helped to be honest).
